How to build the father-daughter relationship

Earlier this year, I had the good fortune of speaking with Dr. Linda Nielsen, professor at Wake Forest University. She was one of the guest speakers during the National Reconciliation Week sponsored by Esther Productions Inc. and The Young Parent Elevation Network.

Nielsen created and continues to teach the only university-level course about the importance and intricacies of the father-daughter relationship. When I was researching for my memoir "Whatever Happened to Daddy's Little Girl? The Impact of Fatherlessness on Black Women," I spoke with her and and became even more convinced that the book I was working on was critical to women's development--not just Black women, but all women.

Listen to this interview for yourself. And, if you're a fatherless girl or woman, it's time to reflect on how you can heal from the trauma you may have experienced. If you have a relationship with your father, nurture it as much as you can.
